Amtrak is in the early planning stages of possibly making a route through the Springfield area.

In the latest report the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has produced several possible daily long-distance passenger routes. One current option is the Amtrak route would start in Dallas, Fort Worth, then work its way through the Midwest, making stop in Springfield, then on to New York City.

If the plan is approved, it will be the first passenger train to come through the Springfield area since the 1960’s.
