Copper wire thefts are on the increase around Greene County, and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help in reporting the thefts.

The copper inside the AT&T phone lines near Willard have been cut down and the wire inside has been stolen.

The FB page, posted by the sheriffs office is asking for the public to report anyone who is tampering with utility lines, especially at night.

Thieves are reportedly using ladders and ropes to pull down the line, which are then being cut. This in turn disrupts phone service and internet services.

Why are thieves targeting copper?  The price of copper has increased substantially per pound through the years.
