A severe geomagnetic storm watch is out  for Monday, June 2. What does this mean?

A geomagnetic storm can create electric fields on the Earth’s surface.  If the electric fields interact with common materials like rock, soil or water they could induce electrical currents in the ground.

Once the electric currents are in the ground they could lead to issues on power grid systems, transformers and even cause power outages.

A storm this big could shift  Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights, south.  If this occurs. parts of Alabama and California could see the colorful sight. It would also mean we may see it tonight in the Ozarks if the weather permits.

May 10 of 2024 was the last time we saw the Northern lights in the Ozarks. At that time another G4-level storm watch was issued.
