Construction is officially underway on Sunshine Street. It began this morning due to weather causing delays; it was originally scheduled to start a little more than ago.

Around 6 p.m. last night crews started to resurface parts of Sunshine Street, working all the way to Glenstone Avenue.

The City of Springfield says crews will work their way East, since efforts are finally underway.

At least one lane in each direction will be open at all times, however traffic delays should be expected. Drivers are asked to be sure to add some time to their commute or reroute.

Going forward, the city says weather will have a major impact on how the project progresses. Paving can only be done when it’s warmer than 45 degrees outside. Crews also have to make sure it won’t rain the next day after milling.

Construction crews will be working night and day on the project, but mostly at night to avoid traffic issues.

The resurfacing project is expected to be finished in December.
