MoDOT begins a multi- year road improvement project on I-44 starting on Monday.

Road crews will be getting the work started with removing and strengthening the shoulder roadways getting traffic ready to shift to make room for six-lanes of traffic.

The new 6-lane  addition will spanning from St. Louis to Joplin.

Six bridges in Springfield will be closed and replaced as part of that improvement project.

The bridges closed and replaced will  be at Broadway, Grant, and National Avenue.

MoDOT indicated that each bridge/road could be closed up to 140 days.

The entire project should be wrapped up by May of 2027.
