Get ready to be under the broiler! A heat wave that will be hitting Southwest Missouri, begins today.
The Springfield National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory starting at 1 pm today ( July 29,2024) and will run through Thursday at 7 pm
Temperatures will be in the middle to upper 90’s with heat index values (feeling like) 105 and higher.
How to protect yourself during this hot spell:
- Drink plenty of water, even if you do not feel thirsty; avoid drinks that contain alcohol or caffeine. A
- Avoid strenuous work or exercise outside during the hottest part of the day. If that is not practical, take frequent breaks and remember to drink plenty of water.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
- Protect yourself from the sun with a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses and by putting on sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher
Area Cooling Centers will be open during this heat wave. Cool down at area libraries or the Battlefield Mall.
