President Joe Biden declared today, January 9, 2025, a National Day of Mourning.

The National Day of Mourning is observed following the death of former President Jimmy Carter.

President Carter, 39th President of the United States, will be laid to rest today, Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at the Carter home and garden, part of Jimmy Carter National Historical Park, in Plains, Georgia. He will be buried next to his wife of 77 years, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

For this observance, federal offices will be closed today.

Mail service, the federal courts, federal archives, and the stock market will be shut down until Friday January 10, 2025.

Banks, however, will not be required to close.
