Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This year, the holiday coincides with the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

According to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, both Inauguration Day and the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. are listed as federal holidays, both falling on Jan. 20.

While presidential inaugurations always occur on January 20, MLK Day is a different date each year.

Today, the majority of government offices and agencies will be closed in observance of the two federal holidays.  The closure also includes mail service plus some schools, and banking institutions..
