Late afternoon a severe thunderstorm blew through the Springfield metro, causing downed trees and power outages.

Over 25 thousand homes and businesses are currently without power this morning.

If you should run across a downed powerline, you must assume that it is “live” and could pose as a serious risk for safety.

Traffic lights may also be impacted by power outages.  If a traffic signal is dark or flashing, treat it as a 4-way stop.

Currently Springfield Public work crews are assessing damage and clearing trees and debris off the roadway.
