Heads up if you are traveling soon in the U.S. and beyond!

On May 7, if you are a traveler over the age of 18, you will have to present a Real ID.

What is a Real ID?  The Real ID is an updated version of the states drivers’ license or a state-issued ID with the “STAR” symbol.

The symbol indicates that the ID meets federal security standards.

Real IDs are required for certain federal purposes, like boarding flights.

The star symbol helps distinguish Real IDs from standard state IDs.

Each state may have a slightly different design, but the star remains consistent.

If you don’t have a REAL ID, you may use an alternative ID such as a passport.

You can obtain the new ID by going to your local Department of Revenue and providing the necessary documents.

The TSA will begin enforcing the ID update on May 7, 2025.
