For many country music fans in the 1970s and ’80s, “Hee Haw” was a weekly TV ritual. Premiering on CBS in 1969, and going into first-run syndication in 1971, the show ran until 1992 and Roy Clark was there the whole time as co-host. For most of the show’s run, Roy shared hosting duties with the legendary Buck Owens. When Buck left the show in 1986, Roy shared hosting duties with a different country star each week. Roy passed away this morning in Tulsa at the age of 85. Not only was Roy a spectacular musician, he was also quite the comedian. He even sat in for Johnny Carson on occasion. Here’s a classic bit from “Hee Haw” featuring Roy with Archie Campbell in the barber shop.
