For the next six weeks or so improvements on Mt. Vernon Street could cause some detours for area commuters.

Springfield City Crews are currently working on the sidewalk improvements on Mt. Vernon Streets bet Lulwood and Miller avenue near Willard Intermediate School South.

Crews will be installing a new sidewalk while connecting existing sidewalks. The new improvements will assure pedestrian safety for those using it for school or residential areas.

Lane closures can be expected throughout the construction.

Drivers are advised to follow the posted detours utilizing Miller Avenue, Grand Street, Haseltine Avenue, and Chestnut Expressway.
