A bill that was first introduced to the Springfield City Council about banning “lane splitting,” on March 10, has been unanimously passed by council members.
The practice of lane splitting is when motorcycles or like vehicles, will pass between two vehicles that are traveling in the same direction.
The new bill would amend the city code to prohibit motorcycles, bicycles, or micro-mobility devices like scooters from lane splitting or lane shifting within Springfield city limits.
Authorities indicate that this ban will keep both motorcyclists and others safer on the roadway.
