Expect law enforcement to issue fines instead of warnings with 3 new laws starting January 1, 2025.
- The states “Sidden Bening Hands Free Law” is the Missouri hands- free phone law, which officers will be issuing fines if you are caught holding a phone to text, call, or perform other tasks while behind the wheel. A first time offense will result in a $150 dollar fine.
- Valentine’s Law increases penalties for those who are fleeing from officers after an attempted traffic stop. A violation could lead to a Class D felony.
- Traffic Infractions in court will prohibit the courts from issuing an arrest warrant for drivers who fail to respond, pay a fine or appear in court for a traffic infraction.
Most of these laws went into effect in August, however officers will no longer be giving warnings, instead will be handing out fines.
