It’s not even Valentines Day yet, but love is in the air…for skunks!
It’s mating season for skunks. That means we will be seeing more and more of the striped animals out looking for love, and food, in the Ozarks.
If you should encounter a skunk slowly back away. The skunk will give you a couple of warnings, to stay away. Those warnings include the chattering of teeth, and fluffy fur, to make them look bigger.
Skunks will spray as a last line of defense if they feel threatened.
If you, or your dog should encounter a skunk that has sprayed, there are many options to get rid of the odor.
Most of these products can neutralize the aroma. Skunk shampoo for pets, ammonia, bleach, vinegar, and tomato juice. Coca Cola will also help to neutralize the odor with dawn dishwashing liquid.
If you should run over a skunk on the road, your vehicle could also house the smell. A simple visit to your local carwash should eliminate the odor.
