The Dog Ate It

According to a new survey, the average pet tries to eat something it shouldn't roughly 4 times a day.  Of those dog and cat owners, 61% say they have lost sleep over the thought of their pet getting into something they shouldn't. Pet owners will shout "stop" and "no" 56% of the time to try to stop their pets, while 35% will put their pet in a "time-out."

Try These Less Salt Substitutes

The key to eating less salt might be more seasoning. Your next thought might be, "sure, but which seasonings?" Researchers tested a bunch of spices to see how well they hid the fact that people's food didn't have a lot of salt in it. They tried basil, garlic powder, pepper, and others.  The one that made the biggest difference was chipotle. People had a harder time guessing how much salt was in their food when chipotle was in it too.  This was not the case with other spices. It's not clear why it works, but they're planning a bigger, follow-up study now.

Make Bank As A Waterboy

When a job looks easy, it's probably because someone is working incredibly hard to make it seem that way. When former NFL player Jake Thieneman posted inside videos about the league, he shared some insight.  In a clip making the rounds he reveals that waterboys are paid around $53,000 a year, plus perks.  Alas, they are not just tossing towels and handing out water. They are athletic trainers who usually have a degree and they help treat the injured players on game day and throughout the week.

Football Without A Forward Pass?

The forward pass wasn't added to American football until 1905. That's 36 years after the sport started. It also came with big penalties, like that a dropped pass would cost a team 15 yards and a pass that didn't touch anyone was a turnover.

What on Earth does "starlight" taste like and what is it? It's a limited time-only Coca-Cola.  They're debuting a new drink on Monday that's supposed to taste like outer space. Coca-Cola Starlight is described as quote, "notes reminiscent of stargazing around a campfire as well as a cooling sensation that evokes the feeling of a cold journey to space." Both original and zero-sugar options hit stores nationwide on Monday.

Have a Nice Cup of Hot...Soda?!

Many beverages are enjoyed both hot and cold. However, soda isn't normally one of them. Ice cold soda/pop/Coke is probably how you take your fizzy drink. What about heating up or Dr. Pepper? Dr. Pepper promoted itself as a hot drink for the winter in the '60s.  If you heat it up, it turns thicker, almost like apple cider. Have you done this? Let's talk about it on Facebook!

Something's In Your Water

Researchers tested water that had been sitting in them for 24 hours, and it was full of chemicals. The report says never drink old water from a reusable, soft plastic water bottle. If you have a reusable plastic water bottle and you ever leave water in there overnight, then keep drinking it the next day - STOP IT! Researchers at the University of Copenhagen analyzed water samples after the water had been in there for 24 hours and it was loaded with chemicals. The scientists found hundreds of substances, including photo-initiators, which can mess with your hormones and potentially cause cancer.

Your Car Is Grosser Than Your Toilet

One thing that came out of the pandemic is that we're more aware that germs aren't only in "dirty" places like bathrooms. A new study out of the U.K. says that the average person's car has significantly more bacterial contamination than the average toilet seat. The study swabbed the vehicles all over and they found the highest concentrations of bacteria are typically in the trunk. The next nastiest spot was the driver's seat, followed by the gearstick, the back seat, and the dashboard.

Surprisingly, the steering wheels had the lowest amounts of bacteria of all the areas they swabbed.  That's probably because during the pandemic people are using more hand sanitizer and washing their hands than they did before. The main thing to take from this is that your trunk can get really gross if you don't clean it regularly.  Be sure to consider that next time you load it up with groceries.
