Rubiks Cubes and a Pogo Stick

A world record has been crushed. In Canada, a 16-year-old kid set a new world record by solving 211 Rubik's cubes while bouncing on a pogo stick and the previous record was 65. He says solving the cubes was easy but bouncing on a pogo stick for an hour and 12 minutes was harder.

No Left Turns

You've probably been aggravated trying to turn left on a busy road, then give up and turn right. So this might interest you. A recent study at Penn State found it might be better if we just made the majority of left turns illegal. Researchers used a bunch of algorithms to figure out the best way to keep traffic moving and prevent accidents. The simulations found that traffic would move smoother if left turns were banned at more intersections. It depends on the city you're in and the traffic flows.  However, in general, the most efficient setups ban left turns near the middle of metropolitan areas and only allows them as you get farther away from the city center.

Saving Money at the Grocery Store

If it feels like your grocery bill has been going up recently, it's not your imagination.  According to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, food prices went up 7% between January 2021 and January 2022.  So here are four tips to save you money at the grocery store.

1.  Fill your pantry with basics.  Stock up on some essentials like pasta, rice, bread, canned tomatoes, frozen vegetables, onions, and potatoes.  You can make a several of meals with those, so you won't have to buy as many new items each week.

2.  Prepare ahead of time.  Don't show up to the grocery store without a list and some ideas of what you'll be cooking for the week.  This will also help limit your trips to the store since every time you walk inside is an opportunity for impulse purchases.

3.  Look for deals.  Take a look at your grocery list and try to find the store that offers the best value on the items you’re looking for.  You can usually browse discounts on a supermarket's website or app.

4.  Tweak your menu.  Meat and dairy tend to be the more expensive items at the supermarket, especially recently. Try to make more meals that don't use them as the main ingredient.

If your still waiting on that cost-of-living raise to help with inflation, it looks like the kids already got one. An annual poll found the Tooth Fairy is now paying more than five bucks  a tooth for the first time ever. The average this year is $5.36 compared to $4.70 in 2021, which was also a record.  That's a 14% jump in 12 months.

More Winter Weather Coming

Storm totals in terms of snowfall aren’t looking very high although some spots in north Springfield could possibly see around 2″ with lighter amounts the farther SE you go. About an inch is likely across the metro with less than an inch in places like Branson and neighborhoods in Northern Arkansas.

As far as ice goes, a 0.25″-0.5″ is expected for southern communities, which could make road conditions dangerous for drivers. There could be some isolated locations that get up closer to 0.75″ and that could lead to power outages.

Temperatures today and Thursday will be below freezing with highs in the 20s and 30s. The cold air will stay through Friday with highs around the 30-degree mark. OzarksFirst has more.

If you plan to hit a casino and want to increase your odd of winning, this might be worth your time. Statistician Jeffrey Rosenthal, says the casino game you should absolutely steer clear of is the Video Lottery Terminal.  Those are the ones with Keno or slot games.  They give a 5% to 15% edge to the house.  For better odds play Craps, and you'll have a 49.29% chance of winning.  By the way, both of these are "pure chance games" meaning it's all luck.  They don't have a skill element like Blackjack.
