Ground zero for Red Dirt Country music can be traced back to the home of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Stillwater Oklahoma. More specifically, a little two-story, five-bedroom house called “The Farm”. The house was out on the edge of town and the home of one Bob Childers, the “Godfather” of Red Dirt. Some of the music founding members became who we know today as the Red Dirt Rangers.
The Rangers (John Cooper, Brad Piccolo and Ben Han) have been around since the 80s and among the founding members of Red Dirt County. I had the privilege to spend some time with these guys at The Born & Raised Festival. We talked a bit about how the guys got their start and what they’ve been up to lately. True I-Cons of the genre, the Red Dirt Rangers.
