Starting today  jailed inmates will no longer be able to receive books from family and friends while incarcerated.

The new restrictions are from a decision made last year to ban all physical mail from entering Department of Corrections facilities.

Greene County Jail has been operating under similar rules for years.

Why the book stop? DOC officials indicate in recent months, books have arrived with drugs in the spine of the book, or the pages have been laced with drugs.
