You know Spring has arrived when you start seeing Morel Mushrooms on your hike through the woods!
The morel mushrooms can be found in southwest Missouri from April until early May
What to look for?  The common morel has yellowish-brown pits, a spongy cap which is shaped like a Christmas tree and has black ridges.
Where can you find these delicious ‘shrooms?  Woodland, river bottoms, just about any place that is moist and warm in the soil.
Do be watchful of the “false” morel mushrooms while hunting.  The false morels are red with folds flaps or wrinkles instead of pits and ridges. These mushrooms are poisonous.
