The National Weather Service has upgraded and changed the criteria for winter storm weather warnings. The changes included will be dropping the snow limit down an inch, which could prompt more warnings for us here in the Ozarks.

What does this mean?  It means a prediction of five inches of snow will now be under a warning. Before the winter weather criteria changed, the warnings were issued for six inches of snow.

The National Weather Service Meteorologists will also have more flexibility when issuing winter weather warnings and will no longer have a time constraint of a 12-hour window .

Winter begins in the Ozarks on December 21, 2023.
